Are you in any club, Its quite built up around that neck of the woods awful ribbon development.

Traditionally more shotgun territory with some farmers quite opposed almost paranoid about 22s.

Ditto depending on proximity to the railway line and your address Gardai werent keen on issuing licence for 22's

Hey cavan, no not in a club. Sick of trying to get into one cant get a reply or else told to sod off cause im shooting rifle. Am a member of courtlough shootin grounds but dont use it much as the range is very boring. I only ever shoot on land i have permission on and is private land. Also only ever shoot vermin.

Getting into a club in the North County can be difficult especially if your not going to be shooting game.
If I were you i'd knock on a few farmers doors and ask for permission, all they can say is no. Although like Cavan said they can be scetchy about rifles with all the builing in the last few years.
You might have more luck with the permissions out in the Meath area.
    Good luck with it:)

Ta for the advice, ye i have permission from a couple of farmers around the area and they are happy enough for me to shoot away as long as im safe. By they way are rifle shooters allowed to kill hare. And also what is the issue with shooting in stuble feilds? As i said only getting started so any advice much appreciated.

Rats, rabbit, fox, mink & grey squirrel can be shot with a rifle the whole year round.

Jackdaw, rook, greycrow, magpie, pigeon & feral pigeon can be shot with a rifle if causing damage or are likely to cause damage.

You can shoot the above birds in stubble fields if they are attacking a crop nearby. If no crops nearby then can this be a grey area even though one could argue that magpies & greycrows are likely to cause damage the whole year round, crops or no crops nearby......young birds, gamebirds, etc.
