When I got up this morning I was pondering with the thought of going for a mooch after work this evening on new bit of ground I got on the way home. Decided against it as had few different jobs to sort out on the Landrover after work which had to be seen to !!

Anyway was heading back home bout 7.30 and out of the corner of my eye spotted big buck and 3 does slowly grazing across a field. Did a quick u-turn and pulled up for a gander !! Even with a noisy rattly red landrover that looks like a fire engine the deer didnt seem phased at all :)

Watched them for bout ten mins as they slowly grazed across the field no more than 60 yds from me, I shot that big buck at leat ten times with my imaginary rifle !!

Needless to say I'm going armed tomorrow :D

Always the same old story, never have the camera or boom stick with you when you need it.

Well not the big fella I saw first but got nice pricket this evening :D
    image0072i.th.jpg

As soon as I walked into big field of stubble spied 3 animals other side, doe, pricket and fawn, took me nearly an hour to get anway close to them and when I cleared a bit of dead ground they were nowhere to be seen:mad:

Then bout 100 yds to my left 3 heads pop up in little field looking right at me, den start hopping in for the wood  buck got running heart shot off the sticks at 130yds, v pleased with myself, he did a pirouette and dropped on the spot:)

Waited few mins then spot the doe 60 yds out just staring at the dead buck, after few more mins she pops into the wood with a grunt. make my way round to a gap into the field and here's the fawn standing no more than 20 yds from me staring at the buck too, try as I might I couldnt convince myself it had any sign of budding antlers  It eventually pops off too.

Apologies for the poor images, took off the mobile.

Lucky for me there's a new forest road gone in and could back the landrover right up and with the back door opened up could work away on the animal with some sort of shelter as at this stage it was absolutely bucketing down !!

We must do a wee bit of fallow stalking some time.
I have enough meat to feed me now so the next one is for who ever would like some recession proof meat

I'm not a glutton so Even if i get one you can get dibs on it if you want, otherwise i may get another chest freezer :D

I love deer hunting, but I hate to see good meat wasted.
I'd like if possible those who can't afford steak often to get some if possible

I've a fresh deer ready to divie up, anyone want to come TODAY and take a large piece, that they are prepared to BUTCHER them selves can have it.

I'm not a tasty man at butchering, It is a skill developed over time and I don't do it often enough to get really good at it.

All down the years i have had so many people who say "ah yeah Give me a leg" i arrive with "a leg" and they say "ah thats not what i mean, i meant a bit to roast"

And "i don't want it frozen" "i want fresh red Meat"

So I am always reluctant to hear people make me offers of taking meat off my hands;);)

Dusty87 was the Lucky winner who received 1st prize of The pick of the cuts of a young fallow buck

And if I do say so myself it turned out quite tender hanging for 8 days

Walked bit of new ground this evening with the gf, saw 5 does and 2 fawns. The missus is blonde with very pale skin and stood out like a beacon but was gr8 to see so many beasts.

Going for a stroll early in the morn, there's a chap that has 40 fallow fenced in nest door and says the bucks go mad trying get through the fence when the mood is on them :D

Went for a night hike last night up in glendalaugh, started about half 10 and did the longest walk. we must have seen over 100 deer, i think fallow, in the forrestry near the end of the hike in the hills above polanus waterfall. We were so close to them, some walking accross the pathway right infront of us and others just watching us from the bushes along the path. I have not seen that many deer in that area before, it really was a sight!! I take it that being coilte forrest up there hunting is permitted? seen a few casings, 25-06, along the trail.

They would be either sika or red sika hybrids.
Thats national park up there, the rangers use 25-06's when they are culling, and when they have 'guests' out;).
