becoming a lecturer??

so as you can guess from the title im thinking of becoming a university lecturer and i have a few questions...... how do you become one? what qualifications do i need to become one?? is a masters just enough or do i need a phd?? are there too many english lecturers?? thank you :)

Depends on the job - university or institute of technology. It is not just the minimum qualifications, it depends on who you are up against.

A unversity would expect you to be studying for a PhD.

English is your subject? Very difficult to get a (full-time) lecturing position even with a PhD - for most places it's a 'necessary' rather than 'desirable' qualification.
