PDGE Question: Missing Teaching Practice, will this affect my mark overall?

    Hi,

I'm going to be missing two days of teaching practice next week because I volunteered to supervise a TY trip. It sounded like a good idea at the time but now I'm slightly worried this might affect my overall mark because I won't be doing lesson plans for the classes I'm missing.

I know I have to hand in all my lesson plans to get marked at some stage. Does anybody know - will this missing set of lesson plans affect my overall mark?

    Thanks!

Just dont leave a gap in your folder. Create your own little plan for what you are doing on your class trip and your reflection on the trip and how you think it will help your teaching skills. That will cover you. If you are worried then inform your inspector of the days you wont be in class, though i doubt you will be getting a visit any time soon

The actual lesson plans and portfolio account for small enough marks despite the song and dance made about them.

When I was doing anything like that I simply put in a lesson plan template with a sentence saying why I did not have the class and it was never an issue. I think they would welcome you going on a trip like that. I'm not sure a reflection is necessary but perhaps it would be no harm. I never did a reflection for things that were not orthodox classes but that's just me.

To answer your question - will it affect your grade? No way. It's just a couple of days, nothing to worry about. In fact if you did do a reflection on the trip as has been suggested it might be better than ordinary lesson plans for marks.

I often wonder how closely my supervisor actually examined my portfolio but that's another story. It came back to me every bit as neat and tidy as it went in!

But certainly let your supervisor know you won't be around. That's a given.

In terms of useful experience, a couple of days off on a trip with the kids as they really are will beat a classroom situation hands down.
