As far as I can remember I only had to be in for two of the days last year. There was a talk in the Helix where various people spoke (I can't for the life of me remember who they were) and then in a smaller group we were introduced to the SU and got a campus tour and the likes. You'll probably have a talk from the head of your course aswell. and then of course there's the events in the evenings, you should go to all of those!! I didn't and I regretted it!

    Enjoy! DCU is awesome!! =]

I went to get my student card and went home (I got it on the Monday, was meant to wait til Friday :pac:)

Seriously though, go to a couple of things and try to meet people rom your course. It's nice to have a familiar face in those big lectures.

I assume you mean Orientation week. Freshers week is officially the first week of lecturers, it's the week before where all the incoming 1st years come in and have their talks etc.

Orientation week is basically "This is DCU" week, and its helpful to go to everything you're supposed to, and usually there's some really good events on that week too.

Freshers Week is the first week, and its deadly :D Such a buzz about the place, new faces, old friends and all that. There's nothing quite as deadly ^_^

You don't have to go to any of the talks/presentations but it is advisable that you do. With the bar open, I'm sure your new class will head for a drink and get to know each other.
Talks like the one in the Helix are tedious but the talk from your course head is quite useful for clearing up any doubts you have about the course - the workload, the cirriculum etc..
Overall though, you will enjoy Orientation week if you treat it with a positive attitude and go out and enjoy yourself during the SU events.

I know I'll be making the most of it anyway :pac:

Seriously though, back to the Q, go if you want to meet new people, etc... Wouldn't you feel daft if everybody else in your classes were talking about how much fun they had at the Knuts and Bolts night, and you're like "ehh yeah, I couldn't be bothered going to that..."
