It all depends on where your house it with mobile broadband, have you cable? Can you get it from UPC.

I had o2 broadband for a year a while back, and to be honest, the service was brutal! And when our contract was up, they didnt tell us and we had to pay to actually get rid of them. cost us an extra 60 quid just to do that. Id stay away from them!

You can't get real broadband without a contract.

O2, 3, Meteor or Vodafone Mobile uses the Mobile Phone network. It's not Broadband. However if there is signal where you are using it and it's only casual web page and email of no real importance then you can get pay as you go "usb mobile dongle". It's 3G Mobile, so Internet, but not Broadband.

Unless you really don't use broadband that much, or are coming from dial up, you will find 3G broadband to be quite restrictive. But if you are really against getting a year long contract, all the networks apparently have a trial period so you can try them in your area before the contract really kicks in. Usually its the recommended approach as the signal you get is very dependent on where you are living.

I'm in cork city myself, and with UPC and I've never had a problem with either their network or their service, though obviously being good with the first one precludes much contact with the second. Additionally when I signed up with them they had an engineer out to me within two days, which is pretty good compared against the weeks left waiting for Eircom. There is a €50 early termination fee but unless you are only going to be there for 4 months or less I'd say its nearly worth it. Plus if you make sure that your next accommodation is in an area covered with UPC you can transfer your contract with no hassle.
