im in the odd situation of having a job but it is not going good. im pulling my hair out and I am fit to quit.
if i do quit, can i claim social welfare?
I may be able to take a leave of absense. will this leave me in with the same options?
what way will my means test be calculated?

im single, and my salary is approx 45,000 p.a.
Im renting also. i have a few quid in the bank, will this form part of the means test?

    cheers.

I feel your pain, been there.
    Note the username ;)

No matter who tells you that you are "lucky to have a job", if the stress is too much it's no worth it.
You are obviously very capable to get that salary and you'll get it again in another place

You are disqualified for nine weeks to answer your question

I'm gonna assume you are working a few years so you go onto to Job Seekers Benefit, no means test afaik
You paid into the system and it'll be there for you after nine weeks

I was giving the op the benifit of using their brain . surely if they need a reference they should go with what i said first and ask them. The latter part is just a way to get fired so they can claim straight away . there are loads different options i just offered two

except that I've already quit.. was just out of college and took on an 'in-betweener' telesales role, really tried to make it work but got to the point where I was contantly on the verge of tears, in and outside work.
    So I walked.
I'm wondering now what to do as I've no income, granted I'm living at home but there'e young kids here and money is tight enough
Do I wait the 9 weeks or so before I even apply for JSB?
I've got about 6 years part time work behind me , Does that count toward my stamps? I've been paying PRSI that long as far as I'm aware.
Obviously I'm applying for anything and everything at the moment but for the time-being I'm without any income at all for the 1st time in a long time and its quite scary. (21 yr old female btw)

just did the same thing. was sick of being told how stupid and crap i am at my job and put down on a daily basis (funnily enough, they begged me to stay after!). dont have any savings to tide me over for the 9 weeks tho so fingers crossed the govt dont decide to let me starve to death!!!
