i bought 300 aib shares a few months ago @ 1.70 a share. As you may know they are now down to about 80 cent a share
there is a lot happening with the banks at the moment and im just wondering is it time to bail on these shares. Any info is appreciated

Since you bought such a small amount, am I right in saying the money means a lot to you? If so, I would get out and salvage something, you can buy yourself a nice leather jacket and impress the ladies with what's left. If you are happy to stay, hold for 5-7 years and you might be surprised with what you get back.

until the how longs a piece of string saga with anglo is sorted the two other banks are going to trip over each other in the 40-80c price range. The markets want one thing certainty re anglo and a bottom line....currently its a black hole. Lenihan I see is working hard on this to give a final figure to the markets.......until this is done bank shares in aib/boi are going no where re capital appreciation.....as previous poster said....5/6 yrs time they maybe onto something....that also depends on the economy bouncing back....

Well we have areselfs two mystic Megs here who look far into the future but yet they couldn't tell us what will happen to the share price in the next week never mind 5 years:pac:
It boils down to this , why did you buy the shares in the first place was it to collect them ?
Would you buy the shares today at the price they are ?

If you answer yes to any of the above then hold onto them

If you thought they were a good buy at €1.70; why don't you buy more shares at €0.70? Nothing has changed with AIB in the last few months, so your original investment thesis must be really strong with prices so low?

Perhaps you should purchase a recent Phoenix magazine (I think it is the latest issue), where moneybags paints a very bleak picture of AIB, it is now effective insolvent! Will try to digout the date of the article.

    AIB hitting new year lows.

You guys must all be ecstatic at the chance to load up at such cheap prices.

yeap, it looks if we are heading back to the abyss. The way things are going we will have a banking collapse of epic proportions if there is continued negative sentiment.

As pointed out on this Board many times, the bank has been insolvent since early 2009. It's about time people took their collective heads out of the sand.

Amazing the amount of people out there that think investing in shares means automatically Bank Shares.

It's because of the vested interests in this country. My pension fund had exposure to Anglo Irish, AIB and BOI. Back in 2005 or 2006 I had a meeting with my pension broker and asked if it was a good idea having 3 Irish banks in the fund and he said that the fund managers know what they're doing. I'd say 99% of people in Ireland who have a pension have exposure to this mess.

In my humble opinion, there's a better than 50% chance of AIB shares going to zero in the next 12 months.

Also there's a good chance that the government won't get the December budget through and the government will collapse. Will a fg/labour government be as determined as FF not to fully nationalise AIB.....
