What margin do gargages make on new cars. Also whats the aveerage profit for warranty work/servicing. In this new buyers market, do you think ay advantages may stem from collective bargaining.

why would any garage or person in the trade give their margins rates away to the general public?

Margin on new cars to a dealer is a damn sight less than the general public think it is.

A main dealer friend of mine says he is making the the same profit (money wise) as he did 20yrs. ago.

They would nt give them away, im just looking for some ball park figures from the general public that might have some idea/heard something. Are you suggesting the margin figures are therefore worth protecting/lucrative.

Margins on new car sales are surprisingly very small.

The issue joe public forgets about Margin is that if your margin is low then you must sell buckets of stuff and if your margin is high then you will not be in business very long.

Garages have to stay ahead of themselves nearly and push hard to sell cars. Before you could have 2/3 Audi dealers in one City and each could happily sell away but now they all must sell far too many cars than there are customers to buy so some close and the rest take up the slack.

Except the margin stays the same and goes down in most cases.

You can be a busy fool or you can work damn hard. Busy fools close down.
