No idea wha to expect from this, Uwe Boll doing a serious movie about Auschwitz? Sounds like the worst idea ever. Be warned, some graphic/disturbing content.

Boll has been turning our some seriously good films of late, starting with Postal his output has gone from so bad it's great to just plain great. Tunnel Rats is a fantastic film and his last release Rampage was so one of the most entertaining films of the summer.

Jesus. That was some disturbing trailer - it was comparable to something you'd see in a Saw or Hostel movie, only ten times more frightening because it really happened.

Really?? This is a surprise, I'll be sure to check them out. I do respect the way he challenged the critic to a boxing match that time :)

Bear in mind that Darko's standards are a little lower than most.

Because I judge every film on its own merits my standards are lower than others? I guess the positive reviews which Tunnel Rats, Rampage and his new film Darfur garnered from respected sources who had previous rubbished Boll's work all have low standards too.

Any other filmmaker and you'd think so but Boll seems to thrive when courting controversy.

they got good reviews because they were vastly improved over his other work, theyre still crap films though

edit:havent seen darfur but its bound to still be a bit **** even if it is better than the previous couple

Tunnel Rats is a very good film, by anyones standards and had anyone elses name been attached to it, it would have received a far wider release. Rampage likewise is a competently well made film which deserved far more than to be dumped direct to DVD. The budget was tiny yet Boll made the film look like a multi million dollar affair rather than the 300 thousand or so affair it was.

Darfur is a great little film and one which has been attracting a lot of support from some very respected filmmakers. Ron Howard has spoke about how good it was and sent Boll an email congratulating him on it.

Have you seen the film are merely judging it on Boll's past work and the negative criticism he received for them?

This could be a good movie. Apparently Boll's grandfather died at Auschwitz,
    He fell from a watchtower.

I just read the synopsis of that film (Postal) - I think I want to see it now. Boll's eponymous character looks like a real nasty piece of work, but he gets what's coming to him:
    a shot to the nuts!

Could an Auschwitz film really be worse than what we saw in Schindler's List or La vita è bella? If anything, those other films showed a slightly sanitized version of the Holocaust experience.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Postal is great fun, one of the most twistedly funny films I have ever soon.

I'd like to see a hard hitting depiction of the Holocaust, most fictional accounts have been far too sanatised and haveing watched Boll's Seed the otehr week he may be the man to do it. Somethign about the way he shoots extreme violence that makes it grubby and realistic.

    I wouldn't, it'd just be too real.
Fair enough watching Hostel, Saw, Antichrist, etc. it's all fiction.
    Plus the burning baby clip,wtf?

Never heard of him actually before this so I went to look at his wiki and read about him fighting his critics and thought "Ohh, that guy".:pac:

I'll probably have to watch a film or two of his before I watch this just to get the jist of his work.

Judging by the trailer it would seem that he will be shooting it in a pretty realistic manner.

This subject has been done before with The Grey Zone (2001) which is pretty disturbing. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252480/

Saw this on you tube which gives a bit more information:
Auschwitz - the upcoming movie by Dr. Uwe Boll. Thanks for broadcast permission to Boll AG.

    Note from Dr. Uwe Boll:

I made that movie back to back with Bloodrayne 3 & it will appear on IMDB soon. The point what a lot of the critics ignore in their hate articles about me is: that i made the movie because their is not one movie made what shows the holocaust what it really was: a killing factory. all the movies made showed us the SPECIAL people ....the heros ..... but nobody focused on the subject matter. this is what i do in my movie and i think in times where 50% of the planet basicly say THERE WAS NO HOLOCAUST - i think its not so bad to show that AUSCHWITZ happened. best - Uwe
Sounds like pure explotation to me, a bit like the old Ilsa movie from the 70's. I've seen some of Uwe Boll's films and they are mostly awful. I'll probably watch this out of morbid curiosity.

Do 50% of the planet say there was no Holocaust?

The most recent Boll film i saw was Postal and as a big fan of the game and also a fan of ripping the piss out of America, I was hugely impressed by what he did. The film cracks every joke other filmmakers considered taboo.

It might seem like an odd comparison then to say Auschwitz will be good for all the same reasons but what I mean by that is Uwe Boll doesn't pull punches simply because, he doesn't need to. He's the most elaborate and OTT filmmaker outside of the studio system you will find and as a result he provides high concepts and big budgets without the lingering smell of a censors board.

I doubt even Darko would try to convince anyone here that those trying to give Boll a second chance should watch Alone In The Dark or House Of The Dead, but definitely, Postal was a turning point and I hope to catch up on his inbetweens before Auschwitz.
