    Hi all;

    Out where i work they are doing Pilates, so my question is this a good core workout for runners?

    If so do many men do this kind of course?

    Thanks

    i done a 6 week course back there in May. The instructor was a physio herself. I was in a class of 3 and was the only chap. Must say it didn't bother much being the only fella in such a small class.

    As a fairly new runner, I found it really benefical to me. I had totally understimated how hard a work out pilates is. As an bloke who played a lot of football, the physio said my hip-flexors are strong but my core was weak. I worked and worked on it and am still at it.

    I notice its definitely improved my posture while running - I feel I'm running in a more upright position, even when tired. (my "form" is not as good as Allyson Felix mind you, but am getting there:D)

    I do Yoga myself and its the same, usually the only fella in the class but do find it very good and helps the calves/hamstrings etc.

    It has helped my core too from what my physio says and is a great workout while giving the legs a night off so i would recommend you do the Pilates class. Your legs will thank you.

    Hi average runner

    Pilates is great when done properly.

    As said in another thread, good to give the legs a rest.

    Do your homework before you start a course, some good basics on u tube, you will get more out of the class.

    Try to get a class with >6, any more than that and it is difficult to see how they can keep an eye on your technique.

    Good luck

    D

    I'd actually love to get into this or yoga myself, but I'm not sure about any classes going on near me, or the male-female ratio of them. I'd just feel a bit weird if I was the only guy among a big group of girls. If I could find a small class near me I'd definitely give it a go.
