Resin casting

I like the idea of being able to replicate solid objects so I wanna get into resin casting. I already have a fume hood but cleaning up after this kinda project might be tricky. On all the tutorials they recommend using acetone which can be found anywhere in America but I read somewhere that you need some kinda license to purchase it in Ireland. Is that true? Also I noticed that polyethylene resin catalyst is contains a significant amount of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide which is a powerful explosive. I can't imagine they sell that product to the average hobby resin caster.

Firstly is acetone a restricted solvent in Ireland. Secondly are all resin catalysts MEK peroxide based or is that only polyethylene resins?

If push comes to shove you can use nail varnish remover as its pretty much all acetone!

Yeah thats the site I found but I'm wondering if they'll let just anyone order acetone and MEK peroxide catalyst. Then again plenty of people all over the world do resin casting at home so they can obviously get their hands on that catalyst. No reason why things would be different here.

Didn't know nail varnish remover was made of acetone, thanks.

If you only need the acetone for cleaning, the nail varnish remover will be fine. If you need to be buying acetone in any sort of quantity talk to the guys in the link I posted. AFAIK there is no prob buying acetone but ring them to confirm if this is the case.
I have bought it (and the peroxide catalyst) from them before some years ago without any special permissions or licence for use in an educational environment as part of a resin casting project, and they were very helpful especially in relation to health and safety in handling the materials.
But like I said if it is an issue - nail varnish remover will be more than up to the task. Read the label on a bottle, its mostly acetone but combined with a few other things like benzoates and some vitamin extracts.
