Install windows media player 11, and you should be able access anything in its library on the ps3 after you set up media sharing

Yeah if you have the media on Windows Media Player it should work, but you must make sure that media streaming is turned on! You can check if it's on by clicking on "Stream" in the top bar, and then choose "More streaming options..." from the list that drops down. You will see the options for allowing remote connections etc, make sure that is set to allow and you are good to go :)

Oh one more thing actually, on your PS3, go to either video or music on the menu and choose the option Search for media or something along those lines...

    install this !
    http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

    install,
    turn on ps3,
    run ps3mediaserver

go to xmb on ps3, press new green triangle icon now on your video menu, and locate the file on your laptop...

    magic !

Follow iPawnage instructions and get ps3mediaserver .

When you browse for your movies (ps3) you will notice that you will have 2 folders with the same name , but one of the the folders is where you need to point your PS3 at . This folder is the one ps3mediaserver is using and will convert the movies on the fly .

I dont have the exact name of the folder type as it been a while since I used this freeware , but read the instructions from the ps3mediaserver site .

yup what he said...its called Transcode Folder,,
so eg you have a file Transformers.avi on your laptop ..xmb>video>ps3mediaserver>daredevilLaptop>videos>transformers.avi and sometimes they dont play..go to..xmb>video>ps3mediaserver>daredevilLaptop>videos>transcode>transformers.avi..it'll work ! defo, you may need to play around with quality settings turning the buffer down a bit if you find it stutter, depends on the quality of your machine really !

download and install ps3 media server
    http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list

download the 4th one down the stable one

it will show up on ps3 as a green play button under video.
in media server on laptop you can add which files and folders to stream.

i use this for streaming 1080p bluray's to my ps3 its amazing quality
plus no need to convert .mkv. bluray files because media server does it for you :D

I'll give it a go. Internet isn't a problem as it's over the LAN, isn't it? Have a 15Mb connection anyway.

Will do. To get this working, I just go into a different folder through the PS?

No way! I can't believe this. I thought I'd have to buy a new router to stream some of my videos. I can't believe it's this simple. It's obviously at a reduced resolution? No harm. Can't believe I never figured this out!

Yep, this is great. No more farting around with the laptop cable! Do you use it to stream everything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭diddly3000

yep everything but as i said earlier it wont stream over subs in tsmuxer mode
so if ya want to watch somethin with subs in hd like avatar or district 9 download a 720p version instead of 1080p

the 1080p files find it hard to stream cos their so big thats why you use tsmuxer instead of the normal mencoder option you used when it kept buffering.
what im sayin is if you want a movie with subs to play, download the 720p version and just play it with the normal mencoder option you used before, that way it will play the subs and stream fine.
whereas if you download 1080p version it will just stutter and buffer again when used in normal mencoder mode..
but if you play it in tsmuxer it will play fine but you wont get the subs.

    MY LITTLE RULE IS
any films with subs i download the 720p version
and any films all in english i get the full 1080p version..

    just a little tip...
sorry if it sounds a bit confusing lol
