Hiya, I'm a finnish 19-year-old girl from Finland and I came to Ireland to work as an au pair. I've been here in Maynooth for two weeks now and I would like to get to meet some students :) as I was a student too... but now I'm spending a year off. I don't know anybody from here, except the family where I'm working and our neighbours :o (and another au pair). Is there eny events for students where I could take part? Thanks!

You can meet loads of students in the next few weeks by just going to the pubs.

And we can do a boardsie meet up. *starts new thread*

    Hei!
I'm sure if you want to you can easily get acquainted with the other international and Irish students, we'll be having events and meetings and things which I can keep you updated on if you like.
If you just want to hang around with some normal-ish Irish students that's fine,
I'll be an international mentor this year so hopefully I can be of some help.
Depends on what you're interested in, send me a personal message and I'll try to help.

    Kiitos,
    Ben.

i'm supposed to have a mentor this year (i'm an international student) but i didnt get much information about it...

i know what you're going through! i've been an aupair in the US and sometimes it can be hard to meet people your age... but i guess in maynooth it wont be a problem!!

Hi, you should be sent an email from your mentor by next week.
The international office first has to send us the contact details of the students we're mentoring and then we contact them.
I haven't received any details yet so you shouldn't really be worried.

Most of the clubs and societies in the university will allow you to take part in their activities, even if you're not a student.

There's a list of clubs and societies and their e-mail addresses here:
    http://studentactivities.nuim.ie/clubsandsocs.shtml

I'm not sure how up-to-date that list is, however. :o

Fairs Day is the best time to see all the different clubs and societies in the college, but I don't know when that's on this year...

Oh, and welcome to Maynooth. :D

just incase you were surprised at how quiet the town has been, the college hasnt started just yet.

The first years are starting next week, and the week after that everybody is back.
