    Hi,
Hope this is the right forum for this query.

I have Windows Vista. Every so often my Wondows Media Player won't open. I click on the icon or try to open the program other ways and it just won't happen. I can leave it then for couple of days and try again and it will open.

Any ideas on what could be causing this and how I might resolve it?

    Thanks

I had the same problem and I believe I have solved the problem. Follow the instructions below:

    1. Click Start, click Accessories, the right click on Command Prompt and choose "run as administrator", then type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then hit enter.

    2. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll then hit enter.

    3. Now type exit and hit enter. Now try media player and it should work.

Also there's a pretty decent link on that forum to this. Very comprehensive!

when you click on the shortcut, does it appear in the Task Manager? if it does, try ending the process there, and restarting. happens sometimes with my Firefox.

though, if you want to use a different program, try VLC player for videos or Winamp for music. both great programs and much better than WMP imo
