Upon looking for a second time the whole thing looks put on.
Watch as he reverses the car away for the first time, The rear bumper falls off and the boot door pops up etc. before he makes contact with anything.

He hits a pole, there is a number of white poles along the edge of the kerb, which are kinda hard to see, the pole the catches underneath the car which is why he can't drive away.
