    Hi,

I am just wondering where people store their water/drinks on their long runs?

At the moment I am running with a 1 litre bottle of water which is very annoying and very awkward!!

I was thinking about driving the route I am going to run on Saturday/Sunday and leaving a few bottles of water in some spots..

    Any tips?

    Thanks,

    Dusty

    Hi,

so you can rob mine? ;)

I stick them in a bush. Couple of weeks ago I just brought €2 and bought a bottle in a local shop.

Yeah I think I will just have to stick a few bottles in a few bushes this weekend...

At the moment I am running with a 1 litre bottle of water and headphones on and when one of my headphones falls out things get awkward!!

Always go for the €2 option in the shorts, and buy a bottle in a shop along the way.

Helps to have the route planned, and know at what point in the LSR you will need to drink. If the run is particularly early remember some shops wont be open before 9am at the weekend.

If i dont finish the drink in a few hundred yards i tend to hide it in a hedge and collect on the way back.

Belt with 4x200ml bottles, if I'm doing 18+ then I'll throw a €2 coin in the shorts pocket too to stop into a shop for water or Lucozade as well because I'm slow and thirsty.

You know the water from graveyard taps is sourced locally, right?

Go to a forest that has a decent sized loop around 2-3 miles store your drink somewhere and take it when you need to. Going to a shop buying a drink during your run is not exactly ideal training. Stopping for a couple of minutes more if there is a queue will lower the heart rate down to under 40% making it a double run with short recovery rather than a long run.

Got myself one of these yokes from Innov-8, holds 2L of water plus lots more space for other stuff. Will be very handy for hillwalking as well I'm hoping.

I have several fuel belts, hate them all. So I stash water before my long runs as I don't pass any shops. Much easier than running with water sloshing around on your waist or back. But I think you have to find what works best for you.

There is no sloshing of water with my Camelbak. It's just a round the waist one that I have for running, but other than a bit of extra weight at the start of the run it's not an issue and doesn't move at all. Just have to remember to pull the straps a bit tighter each time I take a drink or a gel from it and it doesn't move.

I train without water - even for long runs. Always. Never even feel the need for it. I always err...check my hydration levels when I get home too.

Same here, but it helps that I generally do my long runs in the early morning when it's still cool.

I drink as much water as I can stomach immediately before I head out, then I don't feel the need to carry extra stuff with me.

For 17+ miles I need to take water. I've been doing a figure of 8 route lately, so I pass the same point twice. I drop a bottle out beforehand, and carry it home (empty) after the second stop. Seems to work ok. I tried calling into a shop once, and there was a bit of a queue. I figured the state of me, dripping sweat everywhere would make them let me go ahead. But, that didn't happen..

Usually works for me. Other shoppers recoil in horror and the shopkeeper almost throws you the drink free to get you out of his shop :pac:
