The Shield

Just thought I'd start a thread for one of the best shows of the last 10 years. It took a little while to really get going for me but it just got better and better through its 7 season run. I didn't start watching it until it was over, which was more than a little bit annoying towards the end when I couldn't find anywhere to discuss it! The final episode was most likely the finest piece of television I have ever seen, I'd rate it above any film I've ever seen as well.

I loved The Shield. Absolutely fantastic television. Absolutely brilliant acting, great characters, great fast paced storylines.

The ending was just perfect as well.

I think the Shield is often overshadowed by the Wire but i think both are equally brilliant.

Shane is probably one of my favourite characters ever!

Such a great show. I too watched when it was finished, took me a couple of weeks to get through it all.

I would probably prefer The Wire but they're two very different shows.
I think I got halfway through Season 1 the first time I went to watch it. When I watched it the second time I think I did seasons 3 to 7 in about 5 days. :pac:

A masterpiece of a show. I would put it level with the Wire (as said slightly different programmes). I love the way it is all things to all men, the strike team stuff runs perfectly along side Dutch and Claudette with their investigations (which on it's own is infinitly better than the CSI genre garbage) and then the political/racial struggle going on central to the plot. It is an example of what you can do if you have a good idea and great writers. If only there were many shows of this calibre around still.

Finished the Shield over the weekend - man what a finish!!! A great show, fast moving, great characters, big storyline and bigger gritty in your face moments.

I've now watched The West Wing, The Wire, The Sopranos and the Shield in the past year\two and all of them in the last espisode have left my aching for more...however, it was only the shield that left me on the edge of my seat and actually feel a bit sick in antipication on a number of things:
    • Shane - I was thinking for a couple of episodes before "HOW are they going to get out of this...", then started thinking, simply put....maybe they're not....felt awful bad how that storyline turned out. With a small child myself, how bad would things have to look before doing that.
    • Ronnie - I knew he would be stung for the things they did because of Vic's testimoney but I didn't know how he'd find out. Felt bad for him, he showed himself to be a loyal & emotionally sound guy - didn't deserve to get everything pinned to him alone.
    • Vic - This guy has dug himself and his team out of so many situations, I honestly didn't know what the final scene would be but I knew he'd be in it. Its was pretty pitiful to see him in a suit and tie, being shown where to put his lunch, etc. When I saw him take out his gun in the end I though "NO WAY"...Dont do a Shane on it but it was left suitably vague at the end. Is he off to end it for himself, is he going vigilante or is he just used to handing a gun on his person?? who knows.
Well done Shawn Ryan and co - well done indeed!

    Next on the list........Dexter

Just finished the whole show. The finalae was good but the show really could have done with a heart braking ending for Vic, maybe like Carlitos Way. It is a very solid series but there just wasn't enough sunstance to the characters, the plot and the whole world of the show to surpass The Wire. That said it is still leagues ahead of any of the CSI's, Bones or any other "fast food" TV currently being curned out on Sky ect. Given that both The Shield and The Wire were both relatively unknown over here (prehaps the Shield still is?) is there any other decent unsung crime drama series waiting to be discovered?

I watched this almost straight after finishing the wire (against advice) but it didn't pale in comparison really. I preferred the wire, but this was an excellent show I would recommend to people as well.

I am storming threw this show.

Just watched Season 1,2 & 3 in the past few weeks!!!!!

I am sooooo excited I have 4 more seasons to go but the question is does it keep getting better?

I don't want to keep watching it and be disappointed!

    I'm a SHIELD addict! :D

Just finished the 7th season. A few people have mentioned The Wire in comparison - I'd have to give my vote to The Wire but The Shield is pretty good. About season 4 I started to wonder what purpose Ronnie's character played and why he was even in the show, so I expected that he was going to be the last man standing. I think he was the coldest killer of the lot.

The Shield is like a faster paced version of The Wire. Both are fantastic shows in their own right but I'd have to rank The Wire as my 2nd all time favourite TV Show behind Band of Brothers.

    One thing I will say;

Final season of The Shield > Final season of The Wire.

For me seemed quite obvious he was going to plunge into the streets again, where the action is. After all he went through why would he kill himself at the end. Clearly, not the family nor friends kept him going all along. Rather his urge to be a soldier/player on the streets.

You, guys might like 'Oz' as well, if you haven't seen it yet.

Do a search for "Cleatus Van Damme" on Facebook and you will see what I think about the show :)

Started off so so but it just got better and better!
