hows it goin folks, id love to start training in bjj in cork, but im actually nervous about it for some reason. How do i go about it, i dont want to just turn up at the boxing clinic or fighting fit on some random night.

I know everyone had to start somewhere and i should just suck it up but it seems easier said than done for me.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? thanks

Personally I was nervous before my first bjj and judo classes but once you get stuck in you will be fine - ive trained in Liams place on McCurtain Street
and all the lads are sound out there - dont know about the boxing clinic bjj
but Alex is an unreal Judo/Sambo teacher and makes everyone welcome.

Id say Liams No-gi class on Saturday morning/Monday evening would be a great place to start as you will get a feel for it before you buy a gi. Sure everyone has to start somewhere on some random night. Give it a go and im sure you will be fine:D

training for nogi is on at 6pm on monday and 12 noon (i think) on saturday. just turn up 10 mins before and ask someone to point liam out to you and introduce yourself, its a great club and everyone there is really friendly.
just wear a tshirt (or rash guard if you have one) and a pair of board shorts and you're good to go! make sure you've a bottle of water too!

OP, one thing about your first night in the club... It only happens once!.

Go, get over the nerves and on the second night your no longer a stranger!.

Can't say much more than what has already been said socrates.

But as someone who only started recently too, yer best off just taking the plunge. Any club/gym I've been to yet has been great - between the Combat Sport Center in Limerick, Pedro Bessa run by Liam in Cork and SBG in Dublin, I can't say enough about how cool anyone I've met is. Just take the plunge and you'll make some new friends, fall in love with BJJ and have fun!

No need to be nervous, You'll train at our place to Enjoy Jiujitsu and the comradeship. As mentioned , we keep a good vibe here. The training is rewarding & really enjoyable.:D

I was the same as you but after going to a few clubs I joined the boxing clinic and started in july with no experience whatsoever. I was nervous the first night alright but the classes are small (usually between 4 and 8) and Kieran is a great instructor.

I started doing nogi just because I wasn't sure if I'd like it but I love it so much I've now bought my first Gi. I also plan on entering the Irish Open in October.

Once major advantage about the boxing clinic is they also run boxing (obviously!), strength & conditioning, sambo and muay thai classes.
