Does anyone have any statistics on the number of micro businesses there are in Ireland? A micro business is defined as less than 10 people and < 10 m in turnover. There seems to be very little available on this from government sources. thanks

I always considered a micro business as one with <2 people (most likely 1).

A good example would be http://www.bingocardcreator.com/

not irish but a micro business

I think <10 people and turnover <10million is most small business in Ireland.

Hi, thanks for that, you are right from an Irish context, but the definition of a micro enterprise comes from the EU, and sorry I was wrong on that one aspect of the definition, but its <10 people and turnover of < 2million pa. This definition was adopted in 2005.

Have you tried http://www.cso.ie/ or http://www.revenue.ie/. I don't know if the CSO have the info you are looking for, but they could be worth a phone call. My experience is that their staff are very helpful.

ISME could be worth a look too, and the Small Firms Association might help too
