    hi all,
    i have a PC that's custom built.
according to my research its an old custom built PC.
it was running on vista then i installed windows 7 on it.
i re-installed vista to see it would run faster. which it did.
so i tried re-installing windows 7 again and it didnt work.

it kept giving me this message

This computer is not compliant with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) standard. Windows must be installed onto a computer that supports ACPI. Contact your computer manufacturer for a BIOS update or install Windows on an ACPI-compliant computer.

when i first installed windows 7 it worked no hassles but now something is wrong.

      what should i do?

      thanks.

Are there any options in the motherboard's BIOS for ACPI, or for ACPI 2.0?

When there is. But when I check disk manager there is meant to be a acpi setting but it's not there.

Did you mean "Device Manager" instead of "Disk Manager" by any chance?

See if you can set any of the settings in your BIOS to enable ACPI or ACPI 2.0.

          Sorry.
          I meant device manger.
It's already set to accept ACPI setting.

I'm afraid the best guess I can give you is that sometime between you installing Vista the second time and attempting to re-install Windows 7, a setting in your BIOS got changed and it's preventing you from installing Windows 7. I can't really help you apart from that. Sorry. :(

          Thats what I'm doing now.
          Thanks for the help.

So you re-installed Vista and that allowed you to re-install 7?

          Yes.
I was missing the ACPI driver. The only way fir me to obtain that was to re-intall vista with all the primary drivers.
When I did that I went to device manager the BINGO I could see the ACPI driver under the computer.

Not true. I installed it on a dell c400 laptop with 768 meg of ram. Works fine.

Running Windows 7 inside a VM which handles all my torrents runs fine with 512MB.
