I have 850 euro as a budget for a golf club in Kildare or surrounding areas and need some advice on where to join.

Have been talking to Bodenstown (850) and Highfield (650) and was wondering whats the best play??

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Played celbridge a few times now.

Its only really a practise course surely? I'm surprised they charge 870 to join as I wouldn't join if it was 100!

Never played Highfield but couldn't be a worse course than Bodenstown...

Neither. I wouldn't recommend Woodlands either.
3 poor courses if you ask me.

Can you recommend any for roughly the same price?

I couldn't tell you what other clubs are looking for.
If you have that information I'll give you my opinion on the said course?
Just my opinion mind, at the end of the day it's your money so yours is the one that matters :)

Bodenstown is a hole, perhaps look more towards Laois which is a short hop down the motorway.

There's some reviews of Rathcore on here and they are favourable. I've never played it.

According to their site membership is €859 so around your budget.

And was/is ni the Golf Digest top 100 courses in Ireland 2008 & 2009.

    Hope that helps.

I actually enjoy playing in Woodlands .. close to home as well - so it suits me .. €800 is membership there .. As far as I know Dunmurry is a bit more expensive - tough track .. but enjoyable too

Athy is €850, joined just this year myself good members club.
It's not overly long greens are a bit tricky and take some getting used to, have played the other courses mentioned on here and with the exception of Dunmurry I would say it rates higher than any others

I would head south, Dunmurray Springs may be expensive, Athy would be worth looking at and Kilkea Castle.

Kilkea Castle is is trouble, a good few members have moved to Athy the last few months and other going to Killerig as well

    New Membership fee

The joining fee for new members has been waived for the period from 1st September 2010 to 1st March 2011. As there are a limited number of places available the closing date of the offer is subject to change.

During the above period new members may join on full payment of the membership fee of €1100 (men) or €1106 ladies.

New members could receive up to six months golf free (depending on date of joining).

New members availing of this offer will not be required to pay their next annual renewal until January 2012.

Membership will be granted strictly on a first come first served basis.

For more information, contact the office on 01-6287592 / info@kilcockgolfclub.ie

I'm biased because I'm a member, but you should try the Curragh - less than 20 mins down the road from Bodenstown (which can be truly awful as has been mentioned) and would be only a little bit over your budget.

I think its around €940 per annum or so - which includes the GUI fee and a €100 bar and restaurant tab.

The sheep have been off the course for almost a year now, and the place is looking great. Give them a call.

Blessington Lakes GC €300 for the remainder of the season up to end of Feb 2011. Email them and they'd probably do a deal for the full 2011. Worth checking out

I was in the same boat as you about 4 years ago, i joined Killeen, i am renting membership from here depending on who rents you the sahre you can get it from 800-1200, it is by far one of the better courses in Kildare, and it has improved year on year over the last four years, played there yesterday and the greens were in super nick, i am an away member here and have to say it is well worh the money. I cannot believe you haven't been recommended this course.

The previous options offered in older posts were including a joining fee, or no joining fee whatsoever. €800-€1200 to rent a share for one year is steep and should the Killeen shareholder decided to stop renting their share your high and dry and must look for a similar member willing to rent their share for one year and bounce from billy to jack.

Whilst Killeen is a fine golf course long term membership is hardly in the budget the OP is looking for as Killeen is in the region of €10,000-€15,000 for a share membership.

    Hi LOFT,

I understand where you are coming from about the rental not being 100% reliable, but there are alot of members with multiple of shares for rent, it is hassle free and the club do everything for you, The joining fee for Killeen as a full time member is a joke i agree with that, but there are some good deals to be had, see link below,

    http://www.adverts.ie/263390/golf/golf-membership-for-sale-killeen-golf-club/

Also it is a course that will keep you on top of your game as it is demanding.
