    Hi all,
Our little one is 15 months now and will be 20 months when #2 arrives, probably another 3 months before #2 will take over the cot.

So, is 2 years old an ok time for a kid to go into a normal bed?

I think it's grand as long as it's a low bed. I would do it before the new baby arrives if it were me, the baby is going to be taking a lot of your time and he/she will probably see it as the baby taking their bed as well.

    Cheers Das Kitty,

Yes, we plan on moving our toddler to new bedroom at Christmas in order to get used to it before #2 arrives. Our little one has a habit of rolling around all over the cot, could be pointing any direction. I suppose if there's bars on the bed, then it won't be an issue.

    Thanks.

My 21 month old sleeps better in a bed than she does in her cot, although we haven't moved her full time as she moves around a lot. Bed rail is a good idea.

Yep. That's what we did and it worked a treat "oh you're such a big girl now you're gonna have your own bed". We threw in the "you're gonna be a great big sister" occasionally too. :)

The man in red delivered a bed for our oldest at Christmas. Worked a treat.

My son is nearly 14 months and has been in his bed since he was 12 months. He wasn't a good sleeper in the cot so out of desperation we tried the bed. Wall on one side bedguard on the other and he has never slept better. He fell once the first time he tried to get out of it but its so low off the ground he didn't get hurt.
One of the best things is being able to get in next to him for his bedtime story. You cant really do that in a cot.

Your little one will be well able for a bed when you put her in as long as its a low one.

Have been pondering this - Bridget is nearly 20 months now and is in the 90th percentile for height apparently. She isn't trying to climb out of her cot at all, she loves it and I feel she is safe in there. So am thinking I am going to wait until she is at least 2 or 2 and a half. But I may put a bed in her room where she can try the odd nap and get used to the idea.

My lady was in the 90th percentile from birth to 3 years now (she didn't grow from ages 3-4)she is now in the 85th percentile age 11. she never climbed out her cot yet my little guy who was in the 50th percentile was climbing up the stairs at 6months as he had just started crawling on his hands and knees, he never stoped climbing and was in the big bed at 18 months because he could climb out of the cot and i was scared he would get hurt. Its doesn't matter how big the child is to climb, if fact you find the smaller ones more agile than the taller ones.

the bed rail was a god send.

We did not move our bigger guy until he climbed out, we are of the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" school of thought. He climbed out at 2.5 and we put him into a regular double bed that week. No bed rail and he has never fallen out.

I would not move a child just because a sibling was going to need the cot, I would prefer to get a loan of a cot for a few months rather than move the child before they needed to move.

think mrs a is right. I even used a gro bag to stop one of ours climbing out of the cot. just remember you can always use a travel cot to tide you over for a few extra months (these always come in handy and are dirt cheap) Remember you spend a good 4 weeks putting them back into bed when there is no cot walls to keep them in, so its good if the child is a bit older and can enjoy the bed and have books or a cd as carrot to keep them in the bed, f

The eldest moved into a bed at just over 2 when I was expecting the second. With him we waited til he got to the climbing out phase..... which never happened :o.. He loved his cot and we had a job getting him out of it at over 3.

I can see that happening with Bridget Littlebug :) She loves her cot and will play happily there for hours when she should be napping. It's her kingdom :D

Wish my little fella did that would have saved me from a lot of worry and stress. he hated the travel cot aswell, would scream the place down the second i put him in it, he owuld use the toys as steps to climb out (little divel).

think your lucky there with your lady.
