How do you get a bookie's license?

I can see that you can get a license to be a bookie at a race meet pretty easily, but in order to buy into a franchise do you have to follow a different procedure? I can't seem to find any info anywhere and Citizens Information are as useless as ever.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't call Citizens Information useless, did you even email them to ask? What did they say?

In any case why would you go to the hassle of paying big bucks on a license and franchise when you can operate your whole business online to millions of people rather than the few thousand at a race course?

If you really want to do it right set up a Betfair account and become the bookie. Then get yourself to a racecourse where trackside information on a horses form can be had (from the right people of course). Review all the on-course bookies odds to set some of your own. Then post your odds on Betfair via your iPhone. Simple. And tax-free.
