Does a non sub Sky+ box record?

A quick question - if I purchase a non sub Sky+ box (already have full sub system and want it for a flat) and just have the english EPG, will sky + work?

Is there any alternative - the flat is wired for Sat but not sure if there are two inputs from the LNB which I know will preclude me from using any PVR!

    Thanks

No it doesn't. You can get a standalone Sky+ subscription, but I don't know what it costs. I think €7.50 I was quoted before was a special offer (and like lots of things with Sky, it's probably €15/month). But then, of course, it'll go back to an Irish EPG.

Having 1 feed doesn't preclude PVR use (including Sky+). It just means that you won't be able to record/watch channels on different transponders.

There are plenty of PVR alternatives (with many cheap options that support a USB hard drive). I've no experience of those, so I'll leave that for others.

I already give Sky over €100 per month so I am not taking a new subscription. Hence the reason for a one off purchase of a box but I would like the facility to record and there seems to be a multitude of options so I am looking for one that is the cheapest! Quality of signal (ie HD etc)is not an issue, just being able to receive more than RTE and TV3.

A Freesat HD PVR will record all the Useful Tv except IRish TV, free.

Unless you *MUST* have Sky Sports there is little value to Sky over Freesat.
