hi, i have my heart set on a antique engagement ring. we were in 1 antique shop on saturday (we have just started ring shopping) and we have no idea whether the owner & his Mother were 'sincere' in selling us the particular product or what! how can we 'trust' what the sales assistant was telling us? this antique shop is in dublin city centre. will we get better value with an antique ring rather than a modern ring? do anyone of you know a few reputable antique shops in dublin or nationwide, we will travel! thank you :)

trust is the most important thing; did you get a good vibe from the place? also, i'd avoid a shop that hasn't been around for a while. weldons on clarendon street are one of the best for antique engagement rings. they've lots on their site www.weldons.ie

I would recommend Malahide Antiques in Malahide.

The guy that owns it is lovely and they have some gorgeous pieces- not pushy at all

Its not in dublin but cobwebs in Galway.
In there myself in saturday, looking at the same as you.
They have some lovely peices but not cheap.
    See www.cobwebs.ie
I think you should go to a jewellers with a good reputation. Loads of other jewellers also do antique type settings.

hi, thank you ! must try malahide antiques. i was in delphi antiques powerscourt. i have to say they had such an amazing choice. it was our first shop and they were helpful but you don't know whether they are ripping us off or whether they are sincere. i have heard of farringtons so we must go and check them out. & we can't ask anyone else their opinion ! as the engagement for now is between us :) boards is such a brilliant platform!

Can highly reccomend Sean McManus and sons in Dun Laoighre opposite Marks and Spencers on Georges Street.

He is incredible recently bought a ring from him for my Fiancee. His advice and the time he takes to get it right is incredible and the choice and advice was top notch

U could make shopping for your ring really special and go to Antwerpe Belgium, just returned last week and am delighted with my ring. Antique style from shop called Joallerie du Centre. Cheap flights with Aer Lingus direct to brussels then just half hour on bus. Diamond shops everywhere although only a few are recommended! Would def recommend it!

Got my antique ring last week in Weldons, as mentioned above. I can't tell you how much I love it or how helpful they were in there.

With antiques, theres not as much choice in that they're not 'mass produced', so if you love something, buy it then and there! It can take much longer to find the right antique ring for you, but it will be SO very worth it when you put on 'yours'.

    Good luck!
