I thought I'd start a new thread for this. So with great difficulty I finally managed to root my HTC desire. I then tried putting on a ROM but all it did was keep rebooting itself. When I went back into the Rom Manager it told me there was an error. I tried 3 different rom's form the SD card but none worked. I then tried downloading one from within rom manager and managed to get Pinky installed. It was also a 100% fresh install with none of my previous data there - is that supposed to happen? Anyway I don't want pinky so I tried some more, but none world work.

Anyway I restored to my last backup and went back to the way it was before - rooted, but still stock OS 2.1.

Now I try again, this time the Mocado rom. It seems to install but it hangs at the Modado HTC welcome screen. I have to pull the battery to restart, but it just loops. It's fukked!!! Not really sure what to do now so booted into recovery. Tried installing another from the dc car, this time the "Pays Rom" and again, it gets to the welcome screen and halts/loops (light flash on and off).

Now I cannot get it to do Anything! When I boot into recovery it just hangs atthe 02 screen.

So I had to restore to factory settings and then restore the latest backup. Back to square one unforunately.

Any recommendations as to how I can try to get the dam rom's installing properly? Are there any in the rom manager downloader than are worth trying?

Seems odd that one would work but not the others... I've only ever gone into a boot loop once, but a wipe and install worked. The first start up after installing a ROM can take while, I'd try a complete wipe before installing another.

Boot into Clockwork recovery mode, select 'wipe data/factory reset' and then 'install zip from SD card'.

What radio are have you installed? Go to Menu/Settings/About Phone/Software Information and it's listed under the Baseband Version heading. Most of the lastest roms require a new enough radio to run. Check out this thread on XDA to compare your radio to what's new.

Edit: Also, when you flash a new rom, especially when you wipe everything first, it can take a long time to boot up the first time. After you install a rom, let it run for a while before you get worried and pull the battery.

Thanks. Ok I did a complete wipe and booted into the fresh os (2.1).
I then booked into recovery and chose the zip I want (Froyo Sense from LeeDr0id: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703)

It seems to only take a few seconds to do whatever, and then it asked me to reboot. Only thing is when it booted back up it did not seem to be the new rom (e.g. only unlocked via top button not via trackball button).

So, I tried again and its now hanging at the 02 Welcome screeen for the last 5 minutes. One thing I also notice is that at the Blue 02 welcome screen with the bubbles etc, the background is kinda grainey with lines going from dark blue to ligher blue all the way down, like the clarity is not as good. When it's working normally these horizontal lines are not there its a full resolution image. Not sure if this matters or means anything?

I'm going to have to pull the battery now and wipe again, then check that radio thing.

Thanks for all your help guys - this is a royal pain the ass but I hope I'll get it eventually :)

Ok I check my radio and it says: 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23 - which is the same as the Latest one on that page, but it has a U in the middle. Hmmm

Does it need debranding? I would have thought if it did you wouldn't even get this far, but maybe there is something O2 have on there causing the problems...
