Did anyone see the documentary on the turf cutting ban on TG4 tonight??
Some interesting viewing of the point of view of the turf cutters.

91 or 92 years of age and willing to go to jail for turf, that's a real man for ya :)

And what harm was he doing by cutting turf?? He showed them the piece of land that his father used to cut turf on and it was as high as the ground the he himself was currently cutting on.

I think Luke "Ming" is just trying to drum up a bit of political support for himself, but there were genuine rural dwellers there whose families had cut turf on local bogs for hundreds of years. They have done far more to preserve bogs than any government minister - they take a bit of turf, but they give back a wildlife habitat which is drained and has ponds for wild ducks. They don't allow animals to graze these bogs making them perfect habitats for Red Grouse, Snipe, and duck through the heather and a breeding ground for a range of wild animals.

If he goes to jail than every banker in the country should get the death penalty

Just my personal opinion but Luke is a tosser, he's trying to capitalize on the issue for votes and nothing more. Last week he was refusing to say a traditional prayer at council meetings. He's attempting to be the Michael O'Leary of local politics

I don't know, maybe contact TG4 and ask if they'll be showing it again?
