Need a commercial car van...

..and I wouldnt be the most knowledgeable about motors.
Looking for a commercialised car. About 99-02. Diesel. My max is 1500.
Any suggestions? Or what to avoid?
I've seen a couple of 306's, Megane's, corrolla for in and around my budget. In general, would these be ok?
Im also wondering about mileage. What is too high for a diesel at this budget?
If it makes a difference, Im just using it primarily for getting from A to B around Dublin.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers,

Unless youre registered with a VAT number kiss your carvan idea goodbye as any commercial vehicle must only be used for commercial purposes and youre not even allowed go down to the shops with it without breaking the law :(

Thank you Green Party!!!!!!! Good luck in the next election

I would not put too much emphasis on mileage on a commercial vehicle to be honest. One van with very low mileage could have been used by a bricky to transport heavy blocks from one place to another covering only 10 miles per day. Suspension, clutch and gearbox could have excess wear on them. Compare that to a van used by a tradesman only carrying his tools, commuting 100 miles each day to and from his place of work.

So judge the van on condition, have it checked by a mechanic or someone who knows their way around motors for signs of abuse to body work, suspension, brakes, clutch, engine and gearbox.

...as the other long running post on the subject will show you, the above is incorrect. You do NOT have to have a VAT number.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Ford Focus TDCI is the only car/van to go for. I have driven 3 of them from new and they never missed a beat, incredibly fuel efficient, I was getting over 800kms on a tank of diesel. Petrol performance with diesel economy, fantastic kick for overtaking.

    thanks for the suggestions.
I'm considering a xsara i saw too. A caddy is probably just out of my price range for the ones i've seen. A bit more space than i need too. Focus is another good one, cheers. Any thoughts on a 98-02 306? I used to have a 99 one back when they were current and always liked it.
