    Hello all,

Any do's & donts for topping up engine coolant. I noticed that mine is low. Can I just top it up or does it have to be drained first & can I use any brand?

    Thanks
    Rich

    Not Your Ornery Onager

    Make/model/year?

There are different types/specs of coolant, and if your owner's manual specifies a particular type, then only use that one. Afaik, problems can arise if you mix or use the wrong type.

It's either red / orange ish or blue / green ish, as said don't mix colours, you can mix brands though. Might be worth investigating where it went, you shouldn't lose ANY coolant.

Coolant system is a closed system, if the level drops its either leaked or been burnt in the engine. Some leaks are absolutely tiny and not easy to find.
