So i don't have the points to do the course i want this year and was wondering which would be better.

    1. To repeat the leaving cert or

    2. Do a access course

Id rather do an access course but i don't know much about them or if i can do one. Im 18 so no mature student access course.

    Thanks in advance.

Access Courses can be done by School Leavers all round Ireland. Really its your own choice (You could have possibly decided already as most schools are re-opened but heres my take). With an access course you have more freedom, your not under the strain of the "Horrible LC" where your concerned with learning off countless info even if you are not really into the subject, you will have too do the "lC" again-the mocks again and go through the whole hassle of study in its hours. Not to mention simple things like wearaing a school uniform and being still treated like a teenager by Teachers -as your still in school. However in fairness Secondary isnt that bad, if you really want to gain more points this time around maybe repeating would be a good idea as you might wish to study something else with higher points next year ? and school is only really made sound bad by whinny kids :). If you want to do the course you applied for next year and and the access course will give you the extra points, why not do it so ?. Both have their pro's and con's and my ideas are hardly organised:D. Personally I would do the access, might make new friends, your technically in college, more freedom, no worrying about 1 stupid exam that supposedly "decides the rest of your life", you wouldnt be under as much pressure and with a little work you would gain entry to college next year while people doing the "LC" might not.

When I did my LC, I got the worst possible points, EVER!!!

I knew the stuff but couldn't put pen to paper, got sick in the middle of the Irish exam - morto!
I couldn't face going back to do my LC again, all that study with probably no better mark. I did a PLC, it was CA so it wasn't as stressful, met loads of new ppl. Went to college, got my degree, been working since and now going back to do my masters - which is mostly CA based.

The course I did in college you needed 420 points - I didn't get half that!! If someone told me I'd be doing a masters back then, I would have cry laughing!
When I did my PLC course, it wasn't very expensive, as in fees, etc. I was 19 when I did it.

At the end of the day, your the only one who can decide, but my advice would be to go for it!!
Just make sure you pick a course that you can use to get in to the original course you wanted in the first place.

    Best of luck:)

To apply for the access course in Gmit go in and ask them in the admissions office beside reception.
