hi all. here is my problem

I was offred a place on the NUI Certificate in Science (Foundation year) course starting in september.

i am unemployed and have applied for the BTEA. havent got an answer back yet, but I had previously thought that the BTEA would cover the course fees and all i need for college. I got that mixed up with student grants.

The closing date for grants was 31st August?

I rang the City Council and they said i can apply for a grant which could take up to 16 weeks. so i can still do that tomorrow? ie. Monday 6th Sept?

is there anythign else i can do to apply for grants? The VEC put me in touch with the City Council so im not sure if thats the same thing?

    HELP!

I too an unemployed, have been unemployed 10 months and got accepted for the back to education allowance.
As for the grants from the counil to cover your fees.
Yes you can apply after the deadline, I rang them and asked that very question and they said they would take them even late into the year and the deadline is not strict.
you have to submit a lot of information to the council so may take a while to compile everything you need to apply for the grant, so I would get cracking rounding up everything you need mate.

    just an update.

was in with the City Council today and they dont deal with the grants for the foundation year course because it is a level 5 or 6 course and its only level 8 that they do. so i have to go into the VEC tomorrow and see what they say.

    another update..

the grants section doesnt cover the Foundation Courses.

on the other hand i DID get the BTEA. but that just covers course fees?

does anyone else know of any other grants you can get for anything else?
