Get the phone book out on Monday and ring around to all the brokers/insurance companies you can find and compare the quotes you get. Every one is different when it comes to Insurance quotes, so it's hard to guess what it'll be.
You're 17, it's going to be expensive, that's just life, but ringing around to all the insurance companies and brokers you can will at least get you the best price and cover.

Why don't you let one of your parents be the owner of the car and you just a named driver on their insurance?

    Should be cheaper!

Nothing like a bit of fraud.

And the OP won't earn a no claims bonus as a named driver.

The OP asked where to get cheap car insurance, not how to cheat the system.

It used to be a lot worse than it is now, i'd say the prices are pretty reasonable considering the high risk category any 17 year old falls into.

my god, €1700 is a very good price!!, when i started driving a car when i was 23 my insurance was €1400, and that was a 1.1
there are plenty of threads on here about insurance quotes well over €2,000,
ring them monday take that price, and do not crash!!

€1700 for a 17 yr old! bite their hand off!. 99% sure that that quote isn't correct. is this quote in your own name or under a parent?

edit: did a quick quote on quinn for a 17 yr old on a starlet xli and it comes in at €6.5k???

There is no such thing as cheap insurance for young drivers.

1700 though, that's very, very reasonable.

Alanstrainor: If the policy is with Aviva, then named driver experience is counted as NCB.

1700 on a traditionally loaded car like a Starlet is cheap enough, unless 123 is cheaper, just go for it. A Starlet is not a cheap car to insure at your age.

Did you tell them the Starlet is modified ?

Nobody has asked the OP are they a male or female. €1700 isn't ridiculous for a female, I've heard of similar quotes

The username sort of rules out a female really.

Has to be something wrong with that quote:eek:

Aviva do a deal were you book 10 lessons and get 6months insurance free for 400!

1700 is a great quote for a 17 year old, especially on a "loaded" car.

WRT the going as named driver option, its best to both not lie to your insurance company, and also to start building your NCB up now. Imagine the discounts you could get at 22/23 with full NCB for 5 years!

€1700 sounds reasonable. That's what I got on my 1.1 206 at 17. Plus you'll be insured 3rd party on any car! (With owners permission)

1.3 Starlet though a sh1tbox is capable of shifting quite speedily, add in TRD stickers, a Janspeed exhaust and no doubt some other tacky add ons, a 17 year old insured under Daddies name and what seems to be a lack of right and wrong (no intention of declaring the mods) and you have in my opinion a recipe for disaster.

Yep sorry I presumed he had a full license and the policy would be in his name.

you would be best of sticking with quinn or axa most other insurance companys wont touch you unless you hav a spare sack of cash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Ah now, 1700 isnt all that unbelievable for a 17 year old. Maybe for the car it's a little off, but my first year in my own name @17 was €2000...
