If you live in an apartment block it's possible your mains water is pumped by a booster pump set located in the basement or ground floor. If this is the case it might be the pump has stopped working for some reason. There is nothing you can do at the moment. If you have an after hour number for the management company this would be the time to use it. Also ask your neighbours if there water is off as well.

Agree with what johnnie has said, just to add that make sure your tap is turned off! I have seen a ruined apartment because of this, they went out, tap was on and flooded the place

Could it be the mains water is gone?

Most likely. Sink in kitchen is the only mains fed tap in the apartment (or should be anyway). The rest of the sinks are tank fed. Check and see if the tank is filling up. Chances are it isn't. Get on to the management company, thats why they are there..... make use of them
