Hi, I am planning to use Irish Rail to commute each day to Dublin to go to college, but I am confused how much a 5 day return/monthly ticket would cost with Irish Rail.

From what I interpret on the Irish Rail website (which I think I'm reading wrong), a 5 day return from Dundalk to Dublin is €28.50.

Could somebody be able to tell me how much a weekly/monthly ticket would cost.

    Thanks in advance,

    Patrick

you are indeed reading it wrong.
A 5 day return means that you are making one return journey where the return leg is within 5 days of the outgoing leg.

Anyhow, a monthly rail point to point ticket for unlimited travel between between Connolly and Dundalk is €259.00.
No idea of what a weekly would cost though.

Ah thanks for clearing that up! I'll contact them on Monday to find out what a weekly ticket is.

    Thanks munchkin_utd

If you're a student I'm 99% sure the weekly ticket is 50 quid.

Arklow has the same cost for monthly season tickets, so heres the cost of their weekly and monthly tickets to Dublin City Centre (Dundalk would be the same or very similar, you would presume)

    Weekly Season - Adult €70.00 Child €28.00 Student €57.00
    Monthly Season - Adult €259.00 Child €113.00 Student €180.00

Thanks again munchkin_utd, if it was €180, or even €200, I'd much prefer getting the train compared to Matthews bus for the same cost.

Thanks again everybody for your help

Yeah it would be around the 180 euro mark for students(monthly), from drogheda i hear its 135 so i can't see it being considerably bigger for dundalk. I definitely find the train better better than Matthews anyway...not sure many would agree with me though!!
