    hi,
just wondering what is the best way of cleaning the ps3 40gb because i just bought one off ebay and when i got it it was covererd in dust and the vents had pockets of dust in them. i hoovered the vents and took the hard drive out and tried to suck out as muck dust as i could. any way i was just wondering if i should thake the console apart and vacuum the insides aswell or should i just leave it. i am kind of worried that if i take it appart an it yets ylod afterwards i wont have any comeback but i dont want it to get ylod because i didnt clean it.

any help would be much appreciated

    thanks toby

Plug it out, turn it upside down and plug it back in. Then power it on

It should turn on the fans at full whack and blow all the dust out

don't ever hover your ps3 again ya ejgit you could do damage:o you could try using electronic wipes in maplin or argos. I dont see the point in opening it all you ever need to do is clean the exterior fan. Then you should clean out all the previous owners data do a factory reset and she will be as good as new:D

Yeah just hold it near the edge of a table so the fans are clear, dont need to hold it up off the ground

Yes, i'm not talking about doing it forever, just for a few seconds until the dust is gone. I do it regularly.

Using a vacuum causes static electricity to build up and everyone knows that can cause terrible things to electronics! Always use a can of air to clean out mother boards and other printed circuit boards.

    hi there.
i was just looking on youtube at the fan test - upside down test and im a little bit dubious about them. alot of people seem to say that it damages your ps3 is this right or is it just a coincidence that theres broke?

Really? I didnt know that. I still wouldnt do it though because I know first hand how much static a hoover can create and I have blown components before.

I have used a combination of hovering out the vents and giving them a blast of compressed air on my PS3's for over three years with no problems to date.

When ye say compressed air in a can, where can you get it? I don't really want to take my PS3 out to the garage and use that kind of compressor.

Any half decent electronics/PC store should have it.

I have bought them from pc world and maplins in the past, as TestTransmission points out you would find it in any decent pc or electronics store.
