Cheap suit that doesn't look cheap?

    Hi all,

I'm sure this, or similar, has been asked before, but times change and so do retailers.

I'm looking to buy a new suit, I tend to need a suit on 4 to 5 occasions a year maximum, so I really don't fancy shelling out serious money for something that's rarely going to see the light of day.

So, the challenge, to find a cheap suit (no more than €200) that doesn't look like it's a cheap suit (easy huh?). I already have plenty of nice (or so I think) shirts, ties and shoes so that at least wont add to the cost.

Can anybody recommend any place that fits the bill? Or even somewhere that has a sale on at the moment?

Forgot to mention I'm male! :-)

As a female, if I need a good quality, not-to-expensive suit, I'd go to Marks and Spencers every time. Their menswear can be a little old, but their suits would still be good value for money. It's worth checking them out.

Marks & Spencer then get it tailored to fit a bit better?

M&S do a made to measure service. I've not tried it but I'm led to believe that they are quite good. They carry a large range os suits so you should find something that you like colour wise. Pick the best fit off the rail. Remember that if the jacket fists and the trousers dont that they should find a different size trouser for you. It's one of the advantages of shopping in big retailers.
When you have the fit as close as you can then talk to their alterations people and get it fitted.
As you are not a suit wearer a little research will pay off for you. Find out HOW a jacket sleeve should fit, how long a trousers leg should be, how tight the waistband should be and so on. When you know what to ask for it makes the whole process so much better.
Good shoes, unscuffed and polished. A matching belt. Cufflinks if the shift takes them. Buy an expensive tie - €50+. Better to wear no watch then to wear a cheap one. It's the accessories that make the impression.

Have you got colour or pattern in mind? What is your suit going to be worn for on these 4 or 5 occasions?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
