Which would you buy? I can afford a 04 c-max or 04-05 Meriva. I prefer the look of the c-max but am not opposed to the Meriva. Does anybody own one of these cars and if so could you give the pros and cons..Thanks

....cheap as chips and better at being a medium size people carrier than either of the other two. Just not as good to drive as the C-Max. The Opel was out dated when it was new nevermind now. Stay away IMO.

Picassos are fine. Engine , gearbox and all the major electrical bits and bobs are strong enough. Front suspension bits i.e wishbones , track rod ends etc can be a bit shaky and abused cars will show signs of clutch wear. After that apart from bits of trim working their way off they're a good value car thats capable of big enough mileage without having to spend a fortune on them.

I was driving an 07 C-Max 1.6Tdci (90ps) earlier this week and it's a fine car. Not that different than a Focus to drive. Spacious inside and handles pretty well for something as high as it is.

The one I was driving was the Active spec which is a base, base model and I'd advise going for at least LX or even Zetec if you can find one. No A/C (and it was bloody scorching), no heated windscreen and not even radio controls on the steering wheel - it's been a long time since I drove a Ford without steering wheel controls.

The C-Max is based on the Focus platform and competes with the Zafira even though the C-Max doesn't have a 7 seater option, whereas the Meriva is based on the smaller Corsa platform and competes with the Renault Modus mini MPV.

So it is really hard to compare both cars given then are not in the same class. I'd imagine the C-Max would be more practical being based on a car from the class above the Meriva.

My wife has a 110bhp Cmax 1.6TDCi. It's quite quick and economical, and it handles very well for an MPV. It has had one or two gremlins, but nothing I couldn't fix myself :D It's the Zetec as well so it has all the goodies as standard. Whilst I have never driven one, I reckon the 90bhp might find the car a bit heavy, but the 90bhps don't have a DPF and EOLYS system either.
