Presentation of lambs at the mart

Just back from the mart in Maam Cross, mule sale today. There were a lot of good sheep there in fairness, prices seemed back a bit on last week but there were a lot of buyers in it all the same.

One thing which struck me going around looking at the different pens of sheep was the presentation of lambs for sale. The night before we bring any animal to the mart they're put in if there's even a slight threat of dampness. They look so much better dry in the pen than like a bunch of drowned rats.

Also seen a lot which had dirty water dripping on them, must've been out of lorries. Just that there were a fair few comparable pens of Scotch ewe lambs, there would have been SFA difference in quality but some were wet and dirty, and others clean and dry so looked bigger!

Maybe I'm being too picky but I think myself the cleaner lots will sell better.

If you think that's bad you should see some of the sheep presented at abattoirs for slaughter, especially coming off stubble turnips in the winter.
