Archos 5 question and codecs

Comments

i have the 60gb version (bought in petes parnell st) and i love it bought codecs from archos website!! (u do get some codecs "free" with archos so dont buy codecs till after!
only negative would be setting up of the wifi--- it took me days to figure out but i had to set my region to uk as Ireland has a different wifi access config-- i reckon its like the old Pal and secam setup of video's /tv's. It might be just my home network (Magnet)

Great player great touchscreen opera browser....only ok i dont like the bookmark favourites settings!! and the opera widgets rarely work/compatible with the Archos!!

I have had a few Archos' so i love the all the capabilities off it being able to play/watch almost any file is brilliant!!
good battery life thats about it ...i think!!!

Pixmania are fine unless something goes wrong, search boards (try consumer issues) for plenty of information about their seemingly nightmarish customer service.

The Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet is not the model with Android. Its the older version (generation 6)

The one with Android is the Archos 5 Internet Tablet (no 'media'). (generation 7)

Daft I know, but thats the French for you. So make sure you are getting the one you want. Also note that they have newer ones soon (Generation 8) with Android 2.2 and a faster 1GHz processor. However there is no 5" version in the new lineup, and also the storage options are crap.

Also, theres only one plugin for the A5IT, the 'Cinema' plugin. Its €15 on Archos site. So that one claiming to be 7 plugins looks to be a scam.

Thanks Voodu, i knew about the name thing but that one on pixmania is advertised with android on it
Any idea when the new ones are out or how much? if there reasonable id wait for 2.2
@ rampantglory: is there much of an advantage in buying the codecs?. most of what i have is in .avi format anyway

hard to tell cos i got em pretty much straight away but some of the files that "arrive" on my pc are different formats and i never have to reformat also i can watch hd movies etc!!!

if every thing u have is avi you will be grand but i think part of having an Archos is the file freedom you get so might as well pay a little extra to fully use it!!!

    https://store.archos.com/plugins.php

not sure if that link will work as i had to enter my serial number

They are all plugins for the Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet from 2008 (non Android).

The Archos 5 Internet Tablet (with Android) from 2009 only has one plugin, the Cinema plugin.

There are two different devices with similar names, I explained all this already above in my post

    Hey everyone,

My boyfriend is looking for the Archos 5 (6th Gen) DVR Station for Christmas, but nowhere seems to have it, (Peats, PC World, Curries, D.I.D Electrical, Argos) but maybe I'm looking in all the wrong shops?!

Pixmania has the DVR Station for the Archos 5 7th Gen, so I'm just wondering if that definetly wouldn't work on the 6th Gen?

Also, if anyone has any other ideas of where I could look for it that would be brilliant!

Hey sorry for the late reply
As far as know the DVr station are not compatible with other series/gens A quick google search should tell u EBay is really good for archos attachments. If you need anymore help just ask :)
