Never park your bike outside front entrances of colleges, especially in North side of Dublin. Always park them behind locked gates in the car park, where there is security.

I have parked my bike at the DIT Mountjoy Square entrance for 1.5 hours, and when I came back, it was stolen. The porters told me that scumbags sometimes come in with wrenches to take the locks off bikes, and they can attack cyclists as well!

A couple of more things: don't wear expensive clothes or carry expensive handbags in Northside of Dublin, just to be safe. Also, if you're walking around Bolton Street- O'Connell Street - Mountjoy Square area, wear shoes with decent soles, because the area is strewn with heroin needles.

As opposed to Aungier St on the Southside, surrounded by all those lovely council flats and homeless beggars. ;)
Seriously OP, you should just go to a local college down the country if you are so afraid of Dublin.

my job takes me to all the dit campus's.

its safe to say, all parts of city centre of dublin are full of scumbags, so wear what you want, be sensible with your valuables and blare music into your ears and walk with a purpose and youl be fine.

Stick to Dundalk mate, bolton street is a rough area but its not junkie central like you make it out to be, mommy had you wrapped in bubblewrap for too long it seems

the area is strewn with heroin needles.

!!! Been in Bolton St for three years and I've never seen a needle. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places though.

Me bike's never been stolen either, but as long as you get a really really solid decent lock and don'y leave it out overnight you should be okay.

Since when is it a 'change' for someones bike to get nicked in Dublin? Bikes get nicked all the time, and they have done for years.

Never seen a heroin or any other needle on the street in Dublin 1, and sure, in the entire northside there are some areas you should steer clear of if you're on your own or have expensive stuff on you, but i think you're making an unfair generalisation of that region. People get robbed, nick bikes and do drugs on the southside too!

    Unnecessary fearmongering FTL!
