    Hi everyone,

    Couple of quick ones.
The parents are heading to OZ for a few months at xmas.
Can anyone recommend a hotel beside heathrow airport?
Flight goes at 11 in the morning so they are going to be there the day before and stay over that night.
Also....they have to get a flight to heathrow (from belfast or dublin) the day before.
Would they be safer going with BMI because they can take their oz luggage free or should they go Aer Lingus and pay for the extra bags??
    Thanks.

There are tons of hotels aroud Heathrow, some of which are better for certain terminals than others. Which terminal are they flying out of?

I don't know what you mean by "safer", but bmi's baggage allowance in economy is 1 piece, max weight 20kg - which isn't a lot. Everything over that would be at excess baggage rates.

Aer Lingus max weight is the same, except that you can obviously pay for a 2nd bag if nessecary and it may be cheaper to do that, depending on the amount of luggage beforehand.

If they're going from T5 I can recommend the Sofitel - really nice hotel, right in the terminal, but not noisy, and we got a very good rate when we stayed there, despite it being a late booking (missed connection)

    Thanks for the help.

It is T5 they are going from.
Sorry with the "safer" comment. It's a local kind of saying with us ie would it be better to fly with bmi and get 20 kgs of free luggage than have to pay with aer lingus.
Probably will book BMI and sofitel then.

As they're flying out from T5-then the sofitel without a doubt-best airport hotel I've ever stayed in and it has a nice busy bar in the evening.

Don't forget to check them in on line 24hrs on the button for your ba flight so you can get yourself the best possible seat-if in economy an exit row for example.

I would second the Sofitel. I have stayed there twice, even if your not flying from T5 it fine. I went over to London last Dec and couldnt get accommodation for love nor money in the city and ended up staying there the second night of my trip! There is a Marks and Spencers just before you enter the hotel from the airport side so handy for food and stuff. There is also a smaller shop in the hotel itself...

my first post on boards.ie feels like ive popped my cherry!

Agree with everyone else... Sofitel is the best hotel at Terminal 5. In fact there are only 2 hotels at T5 to choose from - the Sofitel and Travelodge - (if you want to be able to wake up and walk into the terminal building).

Following pages have write-ups of both hotels with the hotel phone numbers and the Sofitel email address
