Importing car from UK first timer

Thinking of bringin in a Jag xj 2006 worth 20k with 50000 miles on it from the UK but on the VRT website it says the VRT will be 9090 euro. This cant be right? can it?

If you'v entered all the info on revenue correctly then yes it would be right, you may well get hit for "extras" when the car is inspected for registration, ie big alloys, cd changer, leather, sat nav(if it has it) ect... I know all would be standard in the jag but they may be classed as extras by our fine revenue commisioners in their infanate wisdome. Nice car by the way, feck the price of vrt, get it:D

post up a link to the car and one of us will check the VRT just incase you clicked on something by mistake. no harm in getting a second opinion.

No 06 XJ's listed on that site from my search.

32% VRT on a 2.7Tdi for a June 06 XJ is what I also get from the ROS calc.

The one in the link is costing GB£17000 which is roughly around €20500 at the current euro exchange rate, add VRT of €9k (assuming there are no extras on the car to be taken to account) and your talking about just under €30k. Then add the flight and ferry trip so round it off at €30k to import it.

Now this one is asking €28k, if buying straight I would expect to pay less for it and it will come with a warranty:

So don't assume that importing is always the cheapest way to go.
