 Now I am wondering have I wasted my time as they've obviously already seeded. Am I wasting time & money here or will the lots I've sprayed this week die off, and will that die off be long or short term?

No, once they're growing it is safe too spray them. We have sprayed for a good few people in the last week or 2 and still have a few people to spray for. On a lesser note, we find MCPA to give a better kill than Mortone, its also faster and is less affected if it rains soon after spraying. Its around the same price as mortone.

Thanks guys. I'm much happier now, love to see that crap die!

The reason for Mortone was I had it in the shed to be used up. Plan is to replace that with MCPA for the future :)

I sprayed two bad patches about three weeks ago with MCPA, so far have only seen a little change in them... Compared to some I sprayed earlier in the year which died off within a few weeks.. Do they die slower this time of year??

I think it depends on how fast they are growing. They have slowed down growth at this time of year, so the kill won't be as fast as earlier in the year. But you should still get a good kill IMO.

Ya, I sprayed some rushes lately too. I thought they were slow to die off compared to the ones I did in July. They still died though.

I think the best time is in July. Spray early on a fine day, before dinner. That way the water in the spray will have dried well off, well before the dew falls in the night.

I've got the place rids of ragwort and thistles. Hard to kill off the rushes without doing some drainage.

Mine are turning brown alright, seems to be doing the job OK. I don't mind a slow kill as long as the kill is reasonably effective. I kind of got a notion to spray them with the weather really, been meaning to do it like a lot of jobs

I was using a 16 litre backpack sprayer and I noticed as I'd come back with a full tank that the spray had almost dried in so I'm not worried about dew to be honest. Contemplated spraying another bit today but with clouds look dodgy. We only got one shower last night, 20 mile away they got heavy stuff last night. I think I pushed my luck far enough yesterday evening :)
