Can anyone tell me if a boundry ditch can be removed without permission of both parties.I noticed a few months ago that a gap was made to allow animals to a stream but when I went back recently the whole ditch had been cleaned back and it now looks like the stream is in the neighbouring field.

It will depend on where the boundary is. It is often, but not always the centre of the hedge / wall. However, it is sometimes to one side or indeed int eh middle of the field.

By the way, what rural Irish people call a ditch, isn't a ditch. What the rest of the world calls a ditch is a trench. The other bit is the hedge. http://www.google.ie/images?hl=en&q=ditch&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1152&bih=672
