Neuropsychology / Neuroscience volunteering

    Hi!

I'm currently studying for a degree in psychology and wish to pursue a Masters in Neuropsychology or Neuroscience. I was hoping to get some volunteer work in this area but it's so specialised that I have had absolutely no luck so far . I would do any sort of volunteer work within this area from admin work to washing windows :) I just want to be involved in the area!

I've tried contacting hospitals and the like but nothing's come of it. I know there are plenty of mental health hotlines etc. looking for volunteers but it's not really the area I'm looking for.

Would anyone have any suggestions or ideas how to get involved in this? Any help would be much appreciated!

You might consider Headway who work with acquired brain injury clients.

I'm in the same position myself. If your in Dublin the national rehab hospital is a good place to start. I volunteer there working wit patients wit acquired brain injuries and they are always on the lookout for new volunteers

Cheers, thanks. I had actually contacted the NRH a while back and they sent me out a brochure on volunteering positions. They had information about St Vincent De Paul visitors and pet therapy and such. Do you mind me asking what sort of volunteer position you applied for? Thanks :)

Initially I applied for art therapy but once I got registered as a volunteer its pretty easy to make yourself known to the volunteer co ordinator and change areas as many times as you like till you find something your happy with. Also all the volunteer positions don't be in the brochure they send out... once ya get in there are so many fun areas to help out with! :)
