How to downgrade from ios 4.0.2

I accidentally updated my iPhone 3G to 4.0.2 today after it got stuck in DFU mode.

I bought the phone when it was running 4.0.0 or 4.0.1 (can't remember) and I know it had blobs saved for *some* updates, presumably one was 3.x.x to 4.0.0 or 4.0.1. Is there any way I can check what blobs are saved with cydia and then downgrade?

Also, what do I need to do exactly, is it as follows:

    1. Download relevant ipsw file

    2. Edit hosts file to point apple traffic to cydia

    3. Shift-restore in iTunes and select the ipsw file I downloaded

    4. Restore and jailbreak using jailbreakme and unlock with ultrasnow

I did find the phone a little bit slow but I think it may have had to do with enabling multitasking (I was constantly ending processes in SBsettings) and my battery life was pretty ****, lasting just short of one day if I did any browsing on 3G or WiFi/listened to music for long.

Would downgrading to 3.1.3 help any of this? i assume its the same process and could check which blobs it had saved on cydia once I jailbroke on 4.0.0 or 4.0.1.

You need to add the following line to your hosts file
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
