saeco bar 2000 element? service

Hoping that someone here can help me. I bought a saeco bar 2000 from ebay about two months ago -its quite an old machine, approx 20 years I'd guess but with a built in burr grinder and a brass boiler. I disassembled the entire machine, took apart the boiler and all to give it a full service - check for scaling etc.

then when i was reassembling I wired the element directly to the power instead of through the thermostat ( cables labelled wrong :() , so the element fused itself when I turned it on.

So i need a new element for a 20 year old machine. contacted several saeco parts suppliers, no reply . Saeco's own website has a praetorian like system of checks and requisite forms to fill before it will accept a query, forms which i could not fill (warranty/service number etc).

in a couple of years of tinkering this is the first thing ive bricked, well, important thing :D. any advice would be greatly appreciated

    thanks
