I'm looking to get a second hand car battery, I found a place online before but cannot for the life of me locate it again, I think it was in or near Dublin port and from what I understood they took batteries out of cars that were to be scrapped. As opposed to trying in a scrap yard where they might be damaged/sitting around for a long time.

    Anyone know?

I think it is the place near Sir John Rogerson Quay, Is it Irish Metal Merchants?

Why would you want to fit a second hand battery to a car? presume it is for a car and not for some work of art.. A new battery while would be more expensive will give you 4-5 years of life under warranty.

I got one out in Dun Laoghaire East Pier there a month ago for 25 quid.

I dont want to pay full whack or need it to last 4-5 years, just enough to get through the nct, if it does that, I'll drive it on.
    I'll google those places

I'd also be curious to know which motor factors you'd pick up a car battery for 35 quid from.

Buying a second hand battery is real hit and miss. You might be lucky and get a good one but you could just as readily get a bad one. I recko you would want to be getting a second hand battery for substancially less than the price of a new one to justify thr risk.

exactly. the new one would cost 70-80 for me. and before you buy second hand better have tester with you

ffs, just buy a new one. The second hand one will fail and you will end up buying another second hand one which, in the end, will be the same price you would have paid for a new one.

Unless of course your planning on selling the car after the NCT in which case.. grrr :p
