Question about taking my car off the road for a while ...

My tax was up at the end of August. I'm considering taking my car off the road for September and possibly October too ... various reasons, basically I just don't really need it and won't be using it at all so I don't think there's much point paying tax. Just wondering how this works, do I need to call into the Garda station now and inform them or do I just call in whenever I start using it again?

    Thanks for any advice! :)

You would just keep it off the road and when you are re-taxing the car then you need to have a declaration signed by a garda (as a witness to your signature).

Bear in mind the number of garda cars out there with ANPR when declaring the period it is off the road

Also leaving it parked on the street in front of your house means that it is in a public place and subject to motor tax (even if it isn't driven). To be off road means that it has to be kept on private property.

Oh I know, I'd be leaving it in a garage at my fiance's house at the opposite side of the country, that's where it is right now!

Just wanted to check there's nothing I need to do now.

    Thanks! :)

As said, just do nothing now. You will probably get a Motor Tax Renewal reminder in the post but just ignore it.
